First Meeting/Social of 2011!

Aloha Sisters!

At our December meeting we voted to hold a combined meeting and social since the weekends in January we normally would meet were over holiday weekends...
We met at Judy and Sheila's house, and first things first, we had a pledge ritual for our 2 newest sisters.

After a brief meeting we had a program by Judy and Sheila about setting and achieving New Year's Resolutions.  We started by going around and sharing our own resolutions.

We were each given a colorful folder.
Inside each folder was tons of information and useful articles about reaching our new goals, as well as some tools to help us along the way, like a family health chart to fill in and a blank book to use as a food or regular journal.

Our cunning hostesses predicted most of us would include losing weight or getting healthy in our own resolutions and they had prepared a spread of healthy snacks, even demonstrating how to make their favorite smoothie for us all to try!

While we were all enjoying our tasty snacks we had our raffle and the month's birthday girls got presents from their Secret Sisters.

An upcoming birth was celebrated as well with the gift of a quilt and monkeys.

For the social part of the afternoon, we played a highly entertaining and educational game.
Earlier in the day each Sister listed two things about themselves that they thought no one else knew.  These were read aloud and we all had great fun trying to guess which Sister wrote each thing.  What a diverse group of Sisters we have! There are models, coffee addicts, figure skaters, telephone operators, singers, jailbirds, dog lovers, puzzle solvers and even someone raised on an egg farm!

This was quite a delightful and fun way to learn about our Sisters and many great stories were told!

We are looking forward to seeing each other again, next month! Aloha!

December Service Project

As December rolled around, our chapter had a special opportunity to say thank you to some sailors coming home from a 6 month deployment on a submarine.
Members folded boxes out of calendar pages, colored handmade cards and gathered cookies.

We gathered at Jeni's house to fill those boxes with cookies. Sorry for the poor quality on these pictures, our historian's camera was broken and she had resorted to using her phone..
We filled enough boxes for every sailor on the boat to have one!
What a great and beautiful way to recycle old calendars.

Almost every box also had a handmade card expressing our chapters' sentiments.

The boxes were delivered and piled up on one of the tables on the pier where the boat would pull in, ready to be collected by the sailors as they disembarked.

While the sailors were mostly happy to be home, it was reported that they enjoyed the cookie boxes quite a bit as well!

Christmas Potluck and Cookie Exchange

Aloha Everyone! Hope you all had a great holiday season!

We held our December social at Denise's house, and celebrated with a potluck and cookie exchange. Everyone brought their favorite dish to share.

Once we were all dished up we enjoyed many tasty new dishes and went around the table sharing any stories about the dishes and why they are favorites.

After lunch, we also has a Secret Sister present exchange.

Thank you Secret Sisters!

Then it was time for the cookie exchange. a wide variety of cookies were prepared and we all got a nice assortment to take home with us.

A great way to wrap up 2010 with our sisters! Next meeting is at Judy and Sheila's house!

Meeting- December 4, 2010

Aloha Sisters!
We pick up once again at Nancy's house for our December meeting.  Of course there is papers to be sorted and business to attend to... We also officially welcomed a new Sister transferring in and pinned a brand new pledge! Yay!

Our fearless leader taking motions from the floor.
Meeting finished! Time for a quick furry visit before our program.

Our resident cosmetologist, Nancy gave a presentation on some of the different aspects of beauty.
She started by reading the following poem:

Beauty if Forever  by Margaret Rorke

Beauty if forever if it lies beneath the sin.
Time can't reach to sever that which blossoms from within.
Cheeks may crack, revealing all the decdes drifted by;
But there's no concealing what still sparkles in the eye.
When the ore id tested by flames of love and trust,
Where it long has rested, it rebuts the surface rust.
THere can be no fading of a pattern wrapped by years
To withstand invading by a multitude of fears.
Beauty is forever, given what should be its role.
Age is not so clever as to wrinkle up the soul.

Nancy then passed out to us each numbered gifts the were opened in order, as she explained how they relate to the concept of beauty.

In the end it was a very enjoyable presentation, done in a very novel and memorable way. Great job Nancy!

Susie won this meeting's raffle, although she'd need a couple more candy dishes to hold how sweet she is!
One birthday celebrated this day, as well!
Nancy also prepared a great lunch for us to enjoy.
Susie just couldn't resist the pretty little cheesecakes.
Mmmm... Cheesecake!

Cheers to us all and we are looking forward to the next meeting!

And a quick final shot of our newest Sister!
Aloha! See you next time!
